    Leishmania donovani is a protozoa parasite responsible for human visceral leishmaniasis. During their life cycle the parasites exist in 2 forms: as flagellated promastigote within the sandfly vector and as non-flagellated amastigote in the macrophage hagolysosomal compartment of the mammalian host. A2 protein is an amastigote-specific virulence factor that is required for Leishmania donovani parasite survival in a mammalian host.
